Konarak Sun Temple

Konarak Sun Temple
Known as the Black Pagoda for its dark-ish color, this temple is located at Konarak on the Orissa coast 20 kilometers northeast of Puri. It was built by the Ganga ruler Narasimha I (1238-1264). The temple is designed in the shape of a huge chariot drawn on exquisitely carved wheels by a team of horses. Each part of the structure is harmoniously blended, and the intricate treatment of the walls with figures and decorative motifs vibrates with a unique rhythm.
